Contribute to Morgan’s Sesquicentennial Celebration and establish your permanent mark on Morgan’s history by naming a brick in Morgan’s Sesquicentennial Brick Plaza, to be constructed on the Academic Quad from the north end of Welcome Bridge to the base of Holmes Hall. By naming a brick, you may create a lasting memory of your time on campus, memorialize a friend or loved one, honor a professor or school, or recognize your class or organization.
Locations of Bricks: The Plaza will consist of a series of circles at the base of Welcome Bridge (Founders Circle, Regents’ Circle and President’s Circle), a series of circles around the statue of Frederick Douglass (Frederick Douglass Circle) and an avenue of ten quadrangles, called The Morgan Way, in between. The titles and locations of the bricks indicate only the level of donation. Subscribers may purchase bricks in all of the locations.
The Bricks: All of the bricks installed in the Plaza will be 8” W x 4” H and may be engraved with up to three lines, with a maximum of 18 characters per line. Spaces and marks of punctuation will be included in the count of characters. (We recommend that, to maximize characters, you omit marks of punctuation from your inscription.) All inscriptions are subject to approval. Inscriptions may not include phone numbers, e-mail addresses, other personal information, or inappropriate language.
Prices of Bricks and Locations: The prices of bricks depend upon the location selected:
Founders’ Circle: at the center of the circle at the base of Welcome Bridge: $500.
Regents’ Circle: outside of Founders’ Circle at the base of Welcome Bridge: $300.
Presidents’ Circle: outside of the Regents’ Circle at the base of Welcome Bridge: $250.
Frederick Douglass Circle: a series of circles around the base of the Frederick Douglass statue in front of Holmes Hall: $500.
The Morgan Way: the walkway from the Circle at the base of Welcome Bridge to the Circle around the Frederick Douglass Circle. The Morgan Way consist of ten rectangular divisions or quadrangles, each with a capacity of approximately 224 bricks: $150.
Once the Circles have sold out, patrons will be able to purchase bricks only in The Morgan Way. Once the Morgan Way has sold out, the University will expand the Plaza to adjacent avenues on the Academic Quad.
Group Purchase of Segments: Entire blocks of bricks and segments of rectangular quadrants are available for group purchase by graduating classes, organizations and other groups that might want their members’ bricks placed in close proximity to one another.
Group purchases require a minimum of 50 bricks. When group purchases are made, there is no guarantee that all of the bricks will be in the same quadrangle or division. However, they will be in as close a proximity to one another as possible. In other words, they may extend from one quadrangle or division to an adjacent one. If you are interested in a group purchase, please contact Ms. Kimberly Williams at 443-885-3535 or at Kimberly.Williams@Morgan.edu.
Replica Souvenir Bricks: When ordering bricks for the Plaza, patrons may also order a replica souvenir brick to display in their home or at work. The cost of a souvenir brick is $25.00, and it will be mailed directly from the manufacturer at an additional shipping and handling cost of $15.00 per brick.
Opening of Segments of the Plaza: Bricks will be installed and segments of the Sesquicentennial Brick Plaza opened as the segments are filled. The University anticipates a ceremonial opening of segments around Spring Commencement and fall Homecoming.
